OUR WAY FORWARD:
  A STRATEGIC PLAN FOR ONTARIO FIRST NATION PUBLIC LIBRARIES
IMPLEMENTATION COMMITTEE

TERMS OF REFERENCE

PURPOSE       

  • Sets direction for province-wide activities supporting the implementation of Our Way Forward: A Strategic Plan for Ontario First Nation Public Libraries.

 

  • Undertakes projects/creates linkages to support the implementation of Our Way Forward.
  • Communicates the progress of the implementation of Our Way Forward.

 

  • Monitors and evaluates the impact of the implementation of Our Way Forward.

3          First Nation librarians from northern Ontario
            (Selected by the First Nation Libraries Advisory Committee to OLS - North)

3          First Nation librarians from southern Ontario
            (Selected by the Southern Ontario First Nation Public Libraries Committee)

1          First Nation Advisor from Ontario Library Service - North

1          First Nations Consultant from Southern Ontario Library Service

1          Management representative from Ontario Library Service - North

1          Management representative from Southern Ontario Library Service

1          Representative from the Ontario Library Association

REPORTS TO/LIAISES WITH

First Nation public libraries in Ontario

TERM               

Five years (2006-2010)

Upon completion of Our Way Forward’s five-year term, the Committee will make recommendations regarding future actions

OFFICERS

 

The Committee elects four officers – a chairperson, vice-chairperson, a secretary, and an alternate secretary.

The chairperson or vice-chairperson is charged, respectively, with planning agendas and chairing meetings. The secretary or alternate secretary is charged with recording minutes of the Committee’s meetings.

MEETINGS

The Committee meets three or four times a year.

Meetings may be in-person or by teleconference.

The Ontario Library Association (OLA) will provide funding to support librarians’ in-person attendance at meetings subject to annual budget approval by OLA council.

QUORUM          

Four librarians

DECISION MAKING

The Committee prefers to operate by consensus. In the event that a vote must be taken, each member is entitled to one vote.

CONSULTATION

The Committee may, from time to time, provided adequate funding is available, invite individuals to attend a meeting to provide relevant information to the committee.

MEMBER DUTIES

Committee members are responsible for:

  • Attending meetings regularly. The Committee will seek replacement members for any members who miss two consecutive meetings without notice.

 

  • Participating in committee meetings.
  • Sharing knowledge, information, ideas, and contacts that may assist the Committee in achieving its goals.

 

  • Soliciting input and feedback from the First Nations Public Library community in Ontario.
  • Reporting to the First Nations Public Library community in Ontario.

 

  • Encouraging the First Nations Public Library community in Ontario to participate in projects that contribute to the achievement of the Our Way Forward vision.
